“The Impact of Disaster: Social and Cultural Approaches to Fukushima and Chernobyl” addresses the two biggest nuclear power plant catastrophes of our time. This publication is the result of the cooperative research inititative of two research centers in Hesse, the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt (IZO) and the Giessen Center for Eastern European Studies (GiZo); specialists for the Slawic and the Asian region joined in the project to examine the accidents and their consequences under a multidisciplinary approach.

The Editors:

Thomas M. Bohn is Professor for Eastern European History at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Research projects: Politics and Society after Chernobyl (Volkswagen Foundation 2008-2011); The National Park of Białowieza (DFG 2014–2017).

Thomas Feldhoff is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Human Geography and Managing Director and Research Coordinator of the Interdiscipli­nary Centre for East Asian Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Lisette Gebhardt is Professor of Japanese Literature and Culture at the Goethe University Frankfurt. Recently she turned her interest to “Fukushima” and on the reactions of Japanese intellectuals towards the catastrophe in north Japan.

Arndt Graf is Professor of Southeast Asian Studies at the Goethe University of Frankfurt, since 2009. Since 2011 he is director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt.
